Biography
Scott J. Kater has extensive litigation and trial experience with a primary focus on professional negligence defense, and the defense of medical providers, groups and hospitals. He has experience involving pre-suit investigations and defense litigation from initial discovery through trial. He has successfully defended numerous matters involving individual professionals, hospitals and medical corporations. He also serves as local counsel to out-of-state corporate and product liability defendants. He has additional experience litigating general liability, premises liability, product liability, and legal malpractice matters. Since joining the firm, he has been recognized as an Emerging Lawyer based on excellence and peer recognition from other attorneys in Illinois.
Mr. Kater graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2016, where he was recognized with three CALI Awards for Academic Excellence in the areas of legal writing and advocacy. He also participated in Moot Court, winning both the 2014 Appellate Lawyers’ Association competition and the 2015 Loyola Intraschool Competition. Mr. Kater also represented Loyola in the 2016 Andrews Kurth Moot Court National Championship Competition, where Loyola finished 5th overall and Mr. Kater was recognized as the country’s Third Best Speaker. Prior to law school, he earned his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
