Biography
Jonah P. Toennies joined Donohue Brown Smyth in September 2025. He has represented individuals and large corporations in general liability and complex litigation, as well as healthcare professionals and organizations in matters involving litigation, formation, and compliance. Jonah brings extensive experience in legal research and discovery and has served as second chair at trial for several healthcare-related cases.
Before joining DBS, Jonah practiced at large firms in both the Midwest and Northeast, and notably represented retired NFL players in their concussion settlement claims. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center and is admitted to practice in Illinois, Missouri, and Pennsylvania.
During law school, Jonah served on the board of the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy and competed on the University of Houston’s Alternative Dispute Resolution team. He also interned with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.
Jonah continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master’s in Bioethics and served as a program ambassador. His studies focused on ethical issues in biotechnology.
Outside of his work at DBS, Jonah enjoys exercising and walking his dogs, participating in intramural athletics, and attending both professional sports events and musical theatre.
